BUZZZ Privacy Policy

BUZZZ is a free, application-only Editorial membership operated by Cara Coley, based in Miami, Florida ("BUZZZ," "we," "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through buzzzweb.com, the BUZZZ application, the member area and BUZZZ emails (together, the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy covers:

• Visitors to buzzzweb.com.
• Applicants who submit an application to join BUZZZ.
• Members whose applications are accepted.

The publications that feature BUZZZ members (our "BUZZZ publishers") are listed at buzzzweb.com/publishers. Their own privacy practices for their readers are described on those sites. This policy covers the information you give BUZZZ and how BUZZZ uses it, including when BUZZZ uses it to prepare coverage on those publications.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us when you apply

• Your first and last name.
• Your email address.
• Your business name (optional).
• Your website address.
• The addresses of your social media profiles.
• Your business category.
• Your confirmation that you are 18 or older, that your business is eligible, and that you accept our Terms of Membership and this Privacy Policy.

Information you give us as a member

In your member area you may choose to provide more, for example: a description of your business, what you offer and who your customers are, your city, your founding story, upcoming launches and events, your logo, images of your products or premises, a portrait of yourself, a short bio, a contact person for press questions, topics you can speak on, quotes, tips, survey data, nominations of other businesses, correction requests, and your notification preferences.

Information we collect from public sources

• Your website. To verify ownership and to prepare your free site report, we read the publicly available parts of your website, the same way a search engine does: pages, links, your sitemap, robots.txt and llms.txt files, page titles and descriptions, structured data, image descriptions, and whether the BUZZZ footer link and our verification tag are present. We do not log in to your website or access anything that is not public.
• Website performance. We send your public page addresses to Google's PageSpeed Insights service to measure speed and mobile performance.
• Your public profiles and public information about your business, used to research and verify facts for editorial coverage.

Information collected automatically

• Technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, the page that referred you, and the date and time of visits. Our hosting provider processes this information to deliver and secure the Service.
• Analytics. With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use buzzzweb.com. You can decline analytics in the consent banner.
• Visits from member footer links. When someone clicks the BUZZZ link on a member's website, we record that the visit came from that website so we can show the member how many visitors the link sends. We do not place any script or tracking code on members' websites.
• Email activity. Our email provider records whether an email was delivered, bounced or marked as spam, so we can keep our sending healthy.

Cookies and similar technologies

- Strictly necessary: a session cookie that keeps you signed in to the member area, a cookie that remembers your analytics choice, and security checks that protect our forms from automated abuse (Cloudflare Turnstile).
- Analytics (only with consent): Google Analytics cookies.
We do not use advertising cookies.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Review your application, verify that you control your website, and decide on admission.
• Prepare and send your free site report.
• Match you with BUZZZ publishers whose topics genuinely relate to your work.
• Research, write, fact-check and publish editorial coverage about you and your business, including your four onboarding features and later mentions.
• Build and update your public member page.
• Run your member area, including sign-in by emailed link, your coverage list, your tallies and your contributions.
• Check that your BUZZZ footer link is in place and that your website is working.
• Send you emails about your application and membership, coverage alerts with social media kits, and (unless you opt out) program emails such as BUZZZ Asks.
• Understand and improve the Service.
• Protect the Service, our members and our publishers from spam, fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms.
• Comply with law.

4. What becomes public

Being featured is the point of BUZZZ, so some information is public by design:

• Your member page on buzzzweb.com shows your name, business name, category, city, member number, join date, a description approved by you, links to your website and social profiles, your portrait if you choose to add one, and a list of your coverage.
• Editorial coverage on BUZZZ publishers may include your name, business, what you offer, quotes you provide, and links to your website.

Public pages can be read, indexed and stored by search engines and other automated services. BUZZZ allows these crawlers on buzzzweb.com and on BUZZZ publishers. Information that has been public may remain in their copies after we remove it from our pages.

Your email address, your application details, your site report, your contribution history and your member level are never shown publicly.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for targeted advertising.

We share information only:

• With service providers who process it on our behalf and under our instructions: Cloudflare (website hosting, databases, file storage, form protection, and sending and receiving email), Google (Analytics, with your consent, and PageSpeed Insights, which receives your public page addresses), and GitHub (private, access-controlled backup storage).
• When publishing coverage, as described in section 4.
• For legal reasons, if required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, safety or property of BUZZZ, our members, readers or others.
• In a business transfer, if BUZZZ is transferred to another operator, in which case this policy continues to apply to information collected under it unless you are notified and given a choice.

6. How long we keep information

• Applications not admitted: 12 months from the application date, so we can contact you if a fitting publication opens; then deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
• Members: for as long as you are a member, and for 24 months after membership ends, to keep an accurate record of coverage and to handle questions.
• Portraits and member-supplied images: removed from public pages within 24 hours of your request or of your membership ending, and deleted from our storage within 30 days.
• Published editorial coverage remains published as part of the public record of the publications, as explained in our Terms of Membership. Onboarding features can be unpublished at your request when you leave.
• Email opt-outs are kept permanently so we never email you against your wishes.
• Server and security logs are kept for as long as our providers retain them for security purposes.

7. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct it. Most of it you can update yourself in your member area.
• Delete it, subject to the limits in section 6 for published coverage and records we must keep.
• Get a copy in a portable format.
• Opt out of program emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any program email or your notification settings. You will still receive emails that are necessary for your application or membership.
• Decline analytics in the consent banner.
• Leave BUZZZ at any time from your member area.

To make a request, email BUZZZ@buzzzweb.com from the address associated with your application or membership. We will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. Residents of states with consumer privacy laws may have additional rights under those laws, and we will honor them.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access-controlled storage, sign-in by single-use emailed links, and limited access to member data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Age requirement

BUZZZ is for adults. You must be 18 or older to apply. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and member images may not include children. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email BUZZZ@buzzzweb.com and we will delete it.

10. Where information is processed

BUZZZ is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. By using the Service, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.

11. Links to other websites

The Service links to members' websites, social media profiles and BUZZZ publishers. Their privacy practices are their own.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold, we will email members before it takes effect.
